My last piece for 2026 ...can you believe it?
Blog post December 30 With the year nearly at its close, I have just completed this latest piece of artwork—one that had been hidden in my sketchbook, waiting for the right moment to emerge. Attached are images of the original drawing alongside the work in progress. The sculpted head was fused using black frit in the cracks, emphasizing fracture and tension. After the fusing process was complete, I mounted the head onto a frame and cut glass slats to form the background. I am currently exploring works that can either hang on a wall or be displayed on a shelf or dining table, and this piece was intentionally designed on a frame that allows for hanging. It is substantial and weighty, but I felt compelled to bring it into the world rather than keep it tucked away. The piece is titled “I Dare You Say It Again.” While I can’t point to a single source of inspiration, the work gave me the opportunity to use swirling, interweaving glass ribbons to suggest the complexity of the human mind—how thoughts can become confusing, discordant, angry, and unsettling, especially in the current moment. The entangled red coils reflect emotional intensity, sometimes pushing a person to the breaking point. The stark white of the eye interrupts the red turbulence, signaling a moment of clarity—a sense that the subject has reached their limit and is ready to erupt. I reused a previously owned frame and softened the dominance of red with its complementary green. Subtle sparkles of light and small green accents were added to represent fragments of lucid thought emerging through the chaos. I am working toward exhausting my existing sketchbook while continuing to develop new projects. This piece was particularly exciting to create because it allowed me to express emotions I often carry internally—giving them form, weight, and presence through glass. description.
